BJJ for Kids
At Vector Academy, our kids’ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is designed to build more than just martial arts skills. Through structured classes, children develop confidence, discipline, focus, and respect — all while having fun in a safe, supportive environment. Our goal is to help every child grow stronger, both on and off the mats. The kids BJJ program is structured into 3 trimesters, each with specific areas of focus, along with holiday camps for extra enrichment. Training is divided by age group: 4-7 years, 8-12 years, and 13-17 years.
Trimester 1 – Foundations (Jan–Mar / Sep–Nov)
This first trimester introduces kids to the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu in a fun and structured way. They’ll build confidence through learning discipline, body awareness, and the essential movements that create a strong base for the future.
Technical Goals:
Learning gym etiquette & discipline (bowing, lining up, teamwork).
Basic movements (shrimp, bridge, rolls, balance drills).
Fundamental positions: guard, mount, side control.
First self-defense concepts (stranger danger drills, safe falling).
Character Development: Respect, listening, teamwork.
Evaluation: Kids receive a progress stripe for consistent attendance and basics mastery.
Holiday Camp (3 Days – April / December)
Our holiday camp is designed to keep kids active and smiling while school is out. Each day mixes Jiu Jitsu training with games, outdoor adventures, and team-building activities that create friendships and lasting memories.
Activities:
Morning BJJ training (games + technique).
Team-building activities (relay races, obstacle courses).
Martial arts storytelling / movie sessions.
Beach day or outdoor activity.
Trimester 2 – Skills & Application (Apr–Jun / Dec–Feb)
As kids gain confidence, this trimester helps them connect techniques and put their skills into action. They’ll start to combine positions, learn simple submissions, and build the courage to try safe sparring with partners.
Technical Goals:
Transitions between positions (guard to mount, mount to back).
Basic submissions: armbar from mount, collar choke.
Positional sparring (safe, timed drills).
Introduction to takedowns (double leg, body lock).
Character Development: Confidence, responsibility, leadership in warm-ups.
Evaluation: Kids demonstrate transitions and positional control in a small “in-house challenge.”
Holiday Camp (3 Days – July / March)
This camp blends friendly competition with playful adventure. Kids will test their skills in fun challenges, enjoy team activities, and celebrate progress together in a positive and supportive environment.
Activities:
Friendly competition with fun brackets and medals.
Team activities (building sand structures, scavenger hunt).
Technique challenge games (fastest shrimp, best guard escape).
Trimester 3 – Strategy & Growth (Jul–Sep / Mar–May)
In the final trimester, kids learn how to think strategically on the mats and take pride in their progress. They’ll practice flowing between techniques, focus on defense, and take on leadership roles that prepare them for future growth.
Technical Goals:
Learning sequences (guard pass → side control → mount → submission).
Defense focus: escapes from mount, back, and side.
Flow rolling (light sparring with guided intensity).
Preparing kids for friendly local competitions or demos.
Character Development: Mentorship (older kids help younger group).
Evaluation: Stripe promotion or belt review ceremony with parents.
